International Congress on Adaptation Physiology:

                                                            Full text (.pdf)

Objectives

To gather the Latin American scientific community around adaptation physiology topics in order to stimulate integration and research in areas which are of common interest due to our particular geographical localization. To do so, Latin American researchers from different backgrounds will be invited promoting integration between them.

To discuss updated issues in specific topics around adaptation physiology, from the molecular level to the integrative response, which are relevant in the Latin American context through the programmed symposiums.

To create a propitious atmosphere for the academic discussion between expert and novel researchers in the field of adaptation physiology. This will be done through the invitation of recognized researchers in the fields of molecular and systemic adaptations to hypoxia, and other special environments during exercise and/or stress.

Audience

Since the main topic of the congress is of great interest to different scientific fields  we expect assistants of several areas including researchers, professionals and students in health sciences like medicine, nutrition, biology, physical therapy, physical education, military sciences and others, from Colombia and Latin-America.

The congress will be held in Bogotá, D.C., Colombia from the 26th to the 28th of October, 2006. Bogotá city was chosen because it is a representative city of intermediate altitudes located at 2600 msnm with more than 7 million inhabitants living in hipobaric hypoxia. Also since it is the capital city it has the infrastructure to organize an event of this kind. It counts with an international airport with daily flights to and from North- and South-American countries, more than one hundred hotels, guaranteed security conditions, embassies from the participating countries, and more than eleven colleges and universities, besides other cultural and scientific attractions which may be of interest for the assistants to the congress.

Program

The congress will be divided in symposiums:

1.    Molecular biology of hypoxic adaptation
2.    Human molecular and systemic responses to high-altitude
3.    Special environments, exercise and adaptation: Where is the limit?
4.    Exercise at moderate altitude
5.    Adaptations to military operational stress
